Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania
If you’re passionate about chocolate, roller coasters, water rides, ferris wheels or stadium concerts, a visit to Pennsylvania isn’t complete without at least a day or two spent exploring Hersheypark amusement park.
Hershey Park’s Founder
Milton Hershey was an American manufacturer and philanthropist who founded one of the world’s largest confectionery companies, the Hershey Chocolate Company. He pioneered the mass production of milk chocolate, making it affordable for everyone. Born in Derry Church, Pennsylvania, Hershey built his factory there, and the town was renamed Hershey in 1906. A year later, he opened Hersheypark as a private picnic and pleasure park for his employees. Its carousel, swimming pool, amphitheater and grounds were later opened to the public.

ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park
Milton Hershey built the zoo with Franz and Louise Zinner next to Hersheypark, and it was named Hershey Zoo. After a long closure, the zoo was renovated and reopened as a zoological park in 1978 as ZooAmerica. ZooAmerica can be reached by Hersheypark and its focus is educating the public about American wildlife including alligators, rattlesnakes, Gray Wolves, martens, Bald Eagles, elk, turkeys, bob cats and many more mesmerizing creatures native to North America. In 2000 ZooAmerica opened a major new exhibit for bears. The bear habitat was moved and completely revamped, giving the animals a natural environment in which to roam. In addition, the “Black Bear Encounter” features a 13,000-gallon swimming pond for the bears.
